Opinions

CJEO provides three types of judicial ethics advisory opinions. All identifying information is omitted from all published opinions unless confidentiality has expressly been waived.

Formal Opinions

Formal opinions are published following public comment and adoption by the committee.

Informal Opinions

Informal opinions are provided to the requesting judicial officer. CJEO publishes summaries of the formal opinions for the benefit of the bench and the public.

Expedited Opinions

Previously Oral Advice Summaries

Expedited opinions are provided to the requesting judicial officer on an expedited basis and published on the website for the benefit of the bench and the public.

Additional Opinion Formats

CJEO also maintains a compendium of all of its opinions and advice which provides an overview of the topic areas, subject matters, and types of guidance at a glance, as well as a database of its opinions and advice that is searchable using keywords and phrases.
